Midwife

Kou Pealea is one of the original inhabitants of Tonglewin village and an adviser on the community cassava plantation.

As she walks through her village she is constantly surrounded by children.
She holds her two-day-old grandson in her lap - her 30th grandchild.
Before the war Ms Pealea was a midwife.
Some years ago soldiers overran the village, burning her clinic to the ground.
Since then she has continued to deliver babies, setting up a makeshift clinic inside her home.
